Mental Health Services

There is no health without mental health. At StFX, the Health and Counselling Centre offers confidential, student-focused mental health services. We are here to help you on your university journey.

The costs of all the services of the Health & Counselling Centre are covered by your student fees and by Nova Scotia Health: you do not have to pay anything more.

Services include single sessions, group information sessions and workshops, short-term counselling (maximum of 8 sessions), referrals to StFX medical and student services and referrals to other services in the community. Please note we do not offer long-term therapy, and we do not offer assessments for learning disabilities like ADHD.

If you are experiencing an emergency, the following resources are available 24/7:

  • Proceed to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Emergency Department (25 Bay Street) or your nearest hospital emergency department.
  • Call 911
  • NS Mental Health Crisis Line: 1-888-429-8167
  • Suicide Crisis Helpline: 988
  • Good2TalkNS (mental health counselling): 1-833-292-3698

Book a mental health appointment

Book a Same Day Appointment

  • Your first appointment is a Same Day Appointment either in-person at the Health & Counselling Centre (Bloomfield 305) or online on the Med Access platform.
  • You will meet with a therapist for 40-50 minutes to identify your concern, explore ways to help you, and direct you to other services if necessary.
  • Many students find a single session to be sufficient to discover a new perspective on their presenting issue.
